A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

We must all honestly ask ourselves, “What parts of each day is essential and what parts are optional?” Many might state the answer correctly as to how they should answer, but when our day gets full, what is it that which we are willing to give up? Many of us work. Those with children have a number of responsibilities to cover their daily needs. As these children get older this involves school and activities. Even within the church, ministries, though good can become all-consuming. When the business of life consumes us, what happens to prayer and the reading of God’s Word. Do they get top priority, or are they fit in if there is time? Do we read and pray first thing in the morning, so as to direct our day; or squeeze them in at the end of an exhausting day when our focus is barely there?

We read in Mark 1:35-37, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for you.” There was no more important ministry than Jesus’, yet He realized the necessity to spend alone time with His Father. The disciples could only see the tasks ahead of them, not comprehending why Jesus would delay getting to the matters at hand.

As we all assemble our “to-do” list, may we all appropriately give reading His Word (not just a verse or two), and prayer at the top of the list where they belong.

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace. ~Numbers 6:24-26
