A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

Paul comforts the believers as we read in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, "But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." When we read the word "sleep", this means physical death for the believer as Jesus, Himself, initially phrased this term in the death of His friend, Lazarus, in John 11:3-14. When comforting Mary, just prior to raising her brother, Lazarus, Jesus said in John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" In this section of 1 Thessalonians we get one of the best pictures of the Rapture. Critics will state that the word rapture is not in the Bible, but the words "caught up" is the translation of the Greek word, "harpazo", which when translated into the Latin is "rapturo" from which we get "Rapture".

There is so much that we don't know: "What exactly will heaven be like?", "What will God look like?" What exactly will we be doing in heaven?" "When exactly will this Rapture take place?" If God felt it necessary for us to know these answers, He would have outlined it in Scripture, but He chose not to. "I don't know" is an okay answer when we trust the One making the promise. He has not destined us to wrath but His mercy and grace and a future with Him. We read in Revelation 3:10, "Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth." Just as a nation removes their ambassadors before declaring war on another nation, God will remove us, His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20, Philippians 3:20), from earth before He pours our His wrath during the tribulation. If in Christ, we truly have nothing to fear. If we die, we are with Him. If alive when He comes back for us, we get removed before the ultimate wrath strikes. Our focus should be on leading others into a relationship with Christ ,so when we lose them we know that one day we will be reunited with them. This is the anecdote to fear.

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways' ~Isaiah 55:8-9

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A foolish physician he is, and a most unfaithful friend, that will let a sick man die for fear of troubling him; and cruel wretches are we to our friends, that will rather suffer them to go quietly to hell, then we will anger them, or hazard our reputation with them.
