A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

If I went into a car dealership and wanted to get a brand new car, I could ask the salesperson for the car. He would tell me the price. If I explained to him that I had no money, then I could not have the car. If I cried to him and said that I was so sorry that I didn’t have the money, but I really want it, the car would still not be mine. If I brought a bunch of my friends with me to advise me, who had no money like myself, I would be no closer to getting that car. If I sincerely believed that I deserved the car, that would also not work. But if my father, who knows what I want and what I need, went to that car dealership and paid for it in full for me, and placed my name as the owner, then and only then would the car be mine. When will we all realize our forgiveness for our sins cannot be satisfied by our tears over our past mistakes, by our pride in convincing ourselves that we are not that bad, by the advice of any of a number of counselors, by our trust in any other leader, etc. Our forgiveness has nothing to do with the depth of our sorrow, but everything to do with the depth of His payment for us on the cross. For those of us who are called according to His name and having been forgiven.

Over and over again we see there is only one source of hope, yet people choose alternatives, choose to not see Him or follow Him. Many trust in themselves in pride as we read in Isaiah 47:8-10, “Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, Who dwell securely, Who say in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, Nor shall I know the loss of children’; But these two things shall come to you In a moment, in one day:...,For you have trusted in your wickedness; You have said, ‘No one sees me’; Your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you; And you have said in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me’.” Many prefer to deem themselves “spiritual” and place their trust in anyone and anything but the One True God. We read of this in Isaiah 47:12-14, “Stand now with your enchantments And the multitude of your sorcerers, In which you have labored from your youth...You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what will come upon you. Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame;...”. Or we can choose to place our trust and our hope in JESUS CHRIST and Him alone. As we read in Isaiah 45:18-22, “For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret,...Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me.”

God loves us too much to deprive us of our free will. We all have the choice to decide who and what we will trust in. If we would all open our eyes and our ears, there really is no choice at all. Every other choice: our prideful selves, our imperfect counselors, the multitude of false gods, have already proven inept and will only lead us astray. However we know in Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Nothing is more powerful than our God. We know from Hebrews 13:5, “...For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” The world may abandon us, but He never will. We read in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” He is never going to change.

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways' ~Isaiah 55:8-9

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A foolish physician he is, and a most unfaithful friend, that will let a sick man die for fear of troubling him; and cruel wretches are we to our friends, that will rather suffer them to go quietly to hell, then we will anger them, or hazard our reputation with them.
