A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

To be used in any capacity by God, we must be a vessel for Him, and be emptied of ourselves. No one does this completely, but we must approach Him in our unworthiness. After 5 chapters of Isaiah speaking forth the Word of God along with the many woes he declared in Isaiah 5, we come to Isaiah's encounter before the throne room of God in Isaiah 6. To which we read his response in 6:5, "So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts." As a result we see what transpires in 6:7 by one of the seraphim before God's throne with a live coal, "And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin is purged." It was then, after his repentance, that Isaiah received his commission in 6:8, "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." Isaiah did not point to the priests of his day, or the Levites in charge of the Temple, or the king of Judah, but emptied of himself, he said, "Send me".

This whole concept of emptying before moving forward is completely the opposite of what the world emphasizes. The world teaches us to grow in our own strength, our own power, our own intellect, as we move up the ladder of success and try to change the world. The world has it flipped from what God desires in those who will move forward for Him. Jesus was revolutionary when He put forth the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-10, "Blessed are the poor in spirit" (or humbled),...,"Blessed are those who mourn" (over their own sin),...,"Blessed are the meek" (who do not act in their own strength),..., "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness" (rather than their own sense of righteousness),...,"Blessed are the merciful",...,"Blessed are the pure in heart"...,"Blessed are the peacemakers",..."Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake". Jesus outlines the exact opposite of what the world would outline for a prescription for success. Because God's ways are not the world's ways. Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-38, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." For Isaiah, his confession led to his cleansing, which led to his commission. Likewise, we in Christ, are His saints, set apart for His service. If we want the Holy Spirit to move in our lives, we must step out in faith. The Holy Spirit is not a feeling, but a Person who will come alongside us and empower us into action. It is easy for all of us to stand on the sidelines and say, "who am I" that I can be used for the Lord. This is exactly the state we must be in to be used, but then we must yield to Him and not to our own insecurities and fears, as Paul reminded Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." May we each humble ourselves and receive our commission, then move forward.

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

...that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. ~Ephesians 3:17-19

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Repentance, if it is sincere, will be universal. It will extend to every known sin. he who does not repent of everything that is evil, truly repents of nothing.
