What is most precious to us is that which we spend the most time with and the most time thinking about. Our time is far more valuable than our money. With that in mind, what is most precious to each of us? What would devastate us the most if it was lost? Some settle for things such as being devastated when football season is over and their favorite team didn't make it to the playoffs. Many raise the bar above this and spend all their time on their children. In fact one saying is, "We are only as happy as our least happy kid". Others are consumed with their education or careers. So many do poorly after they retire, since without that career and that time of feeling significant or worthwhile being lost they wander through life aimlessly. Others have placed their spouses in this role of occupying most of their thoughts and time. But how many do this with God? How many would be devastated or lost if they found out that the Bible, God, Jesus, etc was no longer available to them? Would most casually shrug their shoulders and go on with life or would you go to great lengths to seek Him with all your heart and mind? We throw words and concepts around very lightly, such as "I love God", but how often do we pause long enough to consider what we state? When Jesus was asked what should be most important to us, without hesitation He responded in Matthew 22:37-38, "Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment." Does our love, our time, our thoughts, our money, etc. reflect that which Jesus said is most important? If not, this is something truly worth pondering as to why not? If we claim to be too busy, what people or things have we placed more prominently than God.

Though the Song of Solomon (SOS), also known as the Song of Songs, can represent a true romance and love story between a man and a woman or as some see it allegorically representing God's love for Israel, one of the best ways to read this book is helping us understand Christ's (The Bridegroom) love for His church (the Bride). When we reflect on just how deeply the Bride loves and seeks after the Bridegroom, does this even closely reflect how we feel about Jesus? Notice what the daughters of Jerusalem say in SOS 1:4, "...We will run after you...". Notice the intensity and desperation of the Bride in 3:1-4, "By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. "I will rise now," I said, "And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love." I sought him, but I did not find him. The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, "Have you seen the one I love?" Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me." Notice Paul's words in Philippians 3:12-14, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, O do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Paul did not allow anything else to distract him from that Who he loved most. Concerning Christ's love for us, consider what He states in the Parable of the Lost Sheep, in Luke 15:4, "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?" Jesus exemplified His love for us further, by His willingness to go to the cross and die for our sins, while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
If our marriage was falling apart, would we not exhaust all time and resources in order to rectify it? If our child was struggling in school, not fitting in, etc, would we not focus diligently on this issue? Yet so many have rejected the gospel message without the slightest of thought or consideration. Comments like I read a bit of the Bible and it didn't resonate with me, or, I used to go to church and didn't get much out of it, etc, shows just how little God means to most. Those of us who spend a good deal of our time with the things of God, surprise the outside world but it is without question your best investment in life.
