A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:17, 19-20, 27, "But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches...Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called...Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be loosed. Are you loosed from a wife? Do not seek a wife." In this section of Scripture, Paul does not elevate one status over another: married or unmarried, slave or free, Jew or Gentile, etc. He is emphasizing that we should not go through life grudgingly and dissatisfied. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven." Our position in life does not determine our ability to glorify God, our attitude does. If we keep our eyes focused on God, we can find His blessing and we can glorify Him no matter what our circumstances.

So do you find yourself single? Then rather than spending all of your time wishing you were married and seeking that spouse, seek how God can bless you in your singleness. Do you find yourself without children and perhaps too old to have one? Rather than living your life regretting this situation, seek how God can bless you in your childlessness. Do you find yourself without a career or a job at the present time? Seek God for His direction and perhaps you will find yourself moving in a completely different direction than you had planned but directly in the direction that God has planned for you. We should be seeking for contentment, joy, and God's plan for our lives. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it." Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." God may indeed change our singleness, our childlessness, our careers, etc; but our joy should rest on being focused on Him rather than life's circumstances.

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. ~Psalm 119:11
