We read in Romans 15:7-9, "Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: "For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, And sing to Your name." Though the Jewish people saw two divisions: Jew vs. Gentile; God also only sees two divisions: saved vs. unsaved. At this time, though unwarranted the Jews deemed the Gentiles as being unworthy and one popular phrase during those times stated that the Gentiles were only useful to fuel the flames of hell. Paul in his threefold quote in Romans 15:9-11, shows the fallacy of this using the law (verse 10), the Psalms (verse 9), and the prophets (verse 11). Paul argued the inclusion of the Gentiles using all three portions of the Hebrew Scriptures. Unfortunately as the Christian movement became increasingly comprised of former Gentiles, the pendulum swung in the opposite direction, and antisemitism crept in. It is also worth noting in Romans 16:22-23, “I, Tertius, who wrote this epistle, greet you in the Lord. Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, a brother." It is so easy when reading over a long list of names to gloss over them. But Tertius means third, and Quartus simply means fourth. These two individuals were slaves not even deemed worthy enough to be given real names, just numbers. Seeing their names illustrates how God has a plan for all of us if we are willing to seek Him.

Over and over again we are shown and told that salvation is available to all. We are told to erect no barriers based on anything, but to reveal the truth of God's love to everyone. We read in Colossians 3:11, "where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all in all. We should take some time and ask ourselves whether there is any "type" of person who you would hesitate to bring the gospel message to. If so, why? Do we allow old prejudices to hinder God's calling on our lives? Another very important aspect to the wide variety of individuals in Christ is that certain unbelievers respond better to certain people. This is why everyone needs to be open to spreading the gospel message to everyone and anyone. For unlike the rest of the world, we need to see things as God sees them. There are only two categories: saved and unsaved. Our commission is to welcome those in the unsaved group to find Jesus Christ and join the ranks of the saved.
