DAY 20 IN THE APP

TODAYS WORSHIP

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. ~2 Corinthians 5:17

A FEW THOUGHTS...

I have had at least two close friends who have described with exquisite accuracy the experience of being in bed at night and being unable to move, yet aware, as though an evil presence was sitting or hovering directly above. They felt helpless and powerless to do anything. Until they prayed and spoke in the name of Jesus (either in their mind or audibly) that this being departed and they were released from this paralysis. These were demonic spirits who are as real as you and me and though they are powerful, they are powerless against our God. So real is this experience, that it has been written about for centuries. As modern science often does, they give this spiritual attack a name, "Sleep Paralysis" and attempt to explain the spiritual side away by explaining it physiologically. Explain away the spiritual world and we do ourselves a tremendous disservice. They are real, both angelic and demonic, and just as they are real, their influence on humanity is also real.

The Bible is so amazing in that no matter how many times we read it, God continues to open Scripture to us in a fresh way. We read in Job 4:12-16, from Eliphaz (one of Job's friends), “This truth was given to me in secret, as though whispered in my ear. It came to me in a disturbing vision at night, when people are in a deep sleep. Fear gripped me, and my bones trembled.  A spirit swept past my face, and my hair stood on end. The spirit stopped, but I couldn’t see its shape. There was a form before my eyes."

In the silence, I heard a voice say,…". Eliphaz begins his argument from physical observation, then moves onto his "spiritual revelation". Though some of what he recants is true, some of it is not, and the conclusion is false, essentially, he concludes that Job is being punished as he is because he deserves to be, based on his own actions. But this is the reality of a spiritual attack. If it were off the wall, no one would take the time to listen or follow. But much more dangerous is when a little truth (Job was indeed being afflicted – that was the truth) is mixed with a little false (supposing it had to be because of something wrong he had done). People will follow truth mixed with a few lies. A partial truth is still a lie.

1 John 4:1-3, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

"If you can’t fly, then run, If you can’t run, then walk, If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward." Martin Luther King Jr.
